Maevn Uniforms EON Collection Review and Giveaway!!!!!

Maevn Uniforms recently provided me with scrubs from their new EON Collection in return for my honest review, and I think I finally found a brand of scrubs that I am in love with! Fabric

The first thing I noticed about both sets of scrubs was the fabric. The Maevn Uniforms EON Collection is the first scrub line to be made with CoolMax Everyday Fabric, and this is basically the same fabric used in athletic wear to keep you cool and dry as you’re working out. As a super active medical student, this is great for me because I am constantly running around and on my feet. I also live in the South and am always breaking a sweat, so it’s really nice to have scrubs that immediately wick away the moisture and don’t make me look like I just jumped into a pool. Also, the fabric feels extremely nice on these scrubs! They definitely weren’t stiff and the scrubs felt really good against my skin. They were also really breathable. I usually can’t wait to take my scrubs off when I get home, but these were so comfortable that I kept them on the entire day.

Pockets

The multiple pockets were my absolute favorite thing about the scrubs. There is no such thing as too many pockets and these scrubs had the perfect amount! On the Maevn EON V-Neck Pocket Top, there were a total of 4 pockets. There were two regular pockets, one hidden in the right pocket, and an upper left pocket big enough to fit a cell phone (I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 to give you an idea of sizing). It also had a small hook on the top left pocket that is perfect for placing your ID. The Maevn EON Full Elastic Cargo Pant had a total of 7 pockets! One of the pockets had a zipper and there was also one further down the right leg. I was seriously in pocket heaven!!!! It was so great being able to put my keys, cards, phone, etc. in my pockets and keep it moving. I usually use my white coat to hold my extra items, but I prefer not to wear it out in public, so it’s usually a hassle trying to hold everything in my hand when I want to make a quick stop at the grocery store or something of that nature, so I am absolutely all for pockets, pockets, and more pockets!

The EON Active Sporty Mesh Panel Top had four pockets, but they were slightly different than the other style. There were two regular pockets and then on the far right side there was a zipper pocket the size of my cell phone, and another of the same size on the left that did not zip. I actually really liked the zipper pocket on these because I was able to put my phone in it, zip it, and not worry about it. The Sporty Mesh Panel Jacket had pockets exactly similar to the top, and for all, it didn’t feel awkward when I filled the pockets (I hardly noticed I had extra stuff in them). The Sporty Mesh Panel Pants didn’t have a lower side pocket, but the two back pockets had a zipper and I really liked that.

Color/Appearance

I received so many compliments on the colors of the scrubs. I wore the Sporty Mesh style in the Wine color, and the Maevn EON style in Lavender. The lavender was my favorite, but the colors were very vivid for both. These scrubs look extremely nice for the cost and the color seems like it will last a very long time. Additionally, one of my friends commented that the Sporty Mesh style worn with the jacket looked like a nice set of gym clothes. This is a plus because even though I am wearing scrubs, I can still go out in public and not have everyone notice that I have them on. When I see scrubs worn in public, I generally start thinking about the germ factor, so these are super nice to have if you have other obligations that require you to wear them outside of a clinical setting. Plus, the pants are nice enough that they could be worn and passed off as just a regular set of pants.

Sizing

The fit was something I was really concerned about when I was deciding what size to choose. I am extremely large busted, but pretty small everywhere else, so scrubs generally tend to be a hit or miss, and I often have to mix and match sizes. Just the other day, I was looking at a pair of store brand scrub pants that I have in a size small and one leg was literally the size of my body! What I really liked about these scrubs was the elastic waistband (I tend to have trouble keeping scrubs up otherwise), and they were extremely true to size. I went by the sizing chart on the website and ordered a size small in the tops, bottoms, and jacket, and they all fit perfectly. The jacket even zipped with no problems and it didn’t look like it was smothering me. Maevn Uniforms also offers the choice of petite, regular, and tall sizing, so this is another plus. I ordered the regular sizing (I am 5’5.5”) and had no issues. I like my scrubs to cover my shoes and have just the right amount of bagginess in case I have to get in weird positions, and these did not disappoint.

Last Thoughts

So overall, I really loved these scrubs! Between the pockets, the fabric, the look, and the fit, they were pretty much perfect in every way. Whether you’re a premedical student, medical student, or other healthcare professional, these scrubs are definitely a must-have! I am absolutely positive that you will fall in love with them just as much as I did :-)

SNMA National Leadership Institute June 2016 Recap - Washington, DC

Happy Monday! I had the amazing opportunity to spend the last few days in Washington, DC attending the Student National Medical Association’s National Leadership Institute, and I couldn’t go without giving a quick recap on the blog!

First time at the SNMA Headquarters!

This was actually my first time in Washington, DC as well as my first time visiting the SNMA headquarters. I arrived on Friday afternoon, and the headquarters was my first stop. It was such an amazing opportunity to be able to see the SNMA staff in their element and physically see where the majority of the work takes place for the organization. I also enjoyed hanging out with my SNMA family that I hadn’t seen in a few months.

As usual, this NLI had a packed schedule, and I was super excited for what was in store. My Friday evening was filled with meetings, and I was up bright and early on Saturday morning for a full day of workshops at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) headquarters where the majority of the NLI was hosted. These workshops included teambuilding exercises, board governance basics, nonprofit finance workshops, fundraising tips, and SNMA strategic planning leadership development talks, just to name a few of the topics covered. I took a ton of notes and really focused on absorbing all of the information. The workshops definitely helped me feel more confident in my leadership abilities, and I look forward to incorporating them in the future.

After the Saturday workshops ended, the AAMC hosted a beautiful reception of the rooftop of their building. It was really nice being able to see the views of the city and fellowship with the other SNMA members. On Sunday morning, we met again bright and early for a morning board meeting and we got a lot accomplished.

Afterwards, NLI officially ended and I was super excited about was getting the chance to meet one of my mentees who lives in the area. For the past year, I have served as a mentor to a few pre-medical students through DiverseMedicine, Inc, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet one of them in person. It is such a blessing to be able to help others pursue their dreams of medicine.

I also had a few hours to spare until my flight, so being that it was my first time in DC, I went sightseeing! I was happy to be able to spend time with my good friend and fellow blogger of Daily Medicine Blog, and we took full advantage of the city. I was super touristy and took pictures everywhere! I’ll post a few at the end of this post because the weather was gorgeous and it was the perfect time to be out in the city.

Overall the June 2016 SNMA NLI was a success and I was happy to be in attendance. I found out my flight was cancelled as I was out sightseeing yesterday, so I didn’t get back home until this morning. I’m still trying to figure out how my flight was cancelled due to “bad weather” five hours early when it was clear from DC to Atlanta, but I’ll save that rant for another day, LOL. I was just happy to be able to catch the first flight back this morning, and make it through traffic in time to be back in class (I was only 30 minutes late, so I call that a success). But that’s pretty much it for the recap, and I’m headed to bed, so until next time!

USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1 are officially complete!!!!! It seriously feels so good to finally be finished with the first parts of my medical board exams. I won't know my scores for about three weeks, but right now I am just celebrating the fact that I crossed yet another big milestone on my journey to becoming a physician. Taking two 8-hour exams in less than a week's time span was a truly rough experience, and I am just happy to be done!

As for the exams, I'l probably have to write up a few posts that compare the two, along with my study strategies, and how I worked my way up to being ready for the marathon. Right now, what pops into my head the most was how vague the COMLEX was. I felt the USMLE gave all the pertinent information so that you had no doubt what they were asking, but the COMLEX gave the absolute bare minimum and you basically had to figure it all out on your own. Overall, outside of OMM material, the exams were very similar...just different. Even with the vagueness and uncertainty, I feel that I did a lot better on the COMLEX than the USMLE though. We'll see what happens when the scores come out, but the week I took the USMLE I felt extremely burnt out and even my assessment exam scores took a serious drop that week, so I'm hoping that didn't negatively impact my score. I walked into the COMLEX feeling a lot more confident, so maybe that's why I feel a lot better about it. 

They say that everyone feels like they failed coming out of the exams, but I honestly am not sure how to feel. Walking out of the USMLE, I know that I had marked maybe 50% of the exam which is probably a really bad sign, but I have no way to gauge how I performed because even after looking up some things I wasn't sure about, I'm still confused lol. As for the COMLEX, I marked a huge amount of the exam as well (if I don't know an answer 100%, I mark it), but for some reason I just feel better about it. Right now, I'm just praying that I passed both exams and that the silly mistakes I usually tend to make were minimal. 

But anyway, be on the lookout for a few board exam posts. I know everyone studies differently, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but hopefully it will help some of you out. And if I performed horribly on the exams (God forbid), then hopefully it will show you all what not to do lol. Either way, I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all, but right now I'm going to celebrate!
